Being the Change We Want to See in Our World
Are you upset with the amount of hate engulfing our world? Do you wonder what you can do to show that we care about the world and the people who live in it? Do you have skills that include writing, website maintenance, graphic design, newsletter layout, communication, fundraising, etc. One Spirit needs people skilled in one or more of these areas.
Join us. Your skills can help end hunger and diet-related disease on Pine Ridge Reservation and provide vision and hope for Lakota youth.
One person can make a difference, in fact, if it doesn’t start with one person, it will never start at all.
Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for.
We are the change that we seek.
One Spirit is sponsoring The Oglala Wild - the new Pine Ridge Lacrosse Team - that is now in action. A three day training camp this week heralded the beginning. Spurred on by the donation of equipment by Ben Wiegel, a young man who gave the donation in support of Kobe's Cause, the team showed their talent and determination as they practiced in 100 degree heat. Their first event will be the Mankato Tourney September 23-24. Dale Pine, who coached the running team for the NYC Marathon, and Cory Black Feather are the primary coaches for The Oglala Wild.
This month we want to recognize the suppliers of our food. Mark Rillings and Rillings Produce from Pierre has been providing food to the program for years. Every month they deliver the freshest of meat and produce. During harvest, the produce from Mark’s farm gets to food distribution within 24 hours of being picked. This produce includes tomatoes, corn, cantaloupe, watermelons, cucumbers, squash, potatoes, onions, etc.
Grounds clean up
We are so glad to announce that Travis Thunder Bull has been "officially" named as the Allen (Pass Creek) Youth Center Director, by the Pass Creek Tribal Council. Travis and the community children are working hard to clean the grounds, mow the grass, and provide a safe place for the little ones.
