One Spirit receives grant from WalMart
A $25,000 grant from Walmart is helping OS meet the increasing need for food on Pine Ridge Reservation and will help to advance the plans for food banks.
We have been able to purchase two freezers that allow us to keep food on hand for urgent situations and make up shortfalls monthly in money raised and money needed. Each month, One Spirit must raise enough money to meet the food needs of more than 100 families who have no sponsor but who desperately need food.
Every day we get calls from elders and families who urgently need food. At present, the food program provides food to about 300 families who feed about 3000 people. In addition, the Cohen House for Seniors, the Safe House, the clients of the Domestic Violence Program, and the Soup Kitchen on Rosebud also participate in the program.
The grant from WalMart and the tremendous help we get each month from One Spirit people will help pave the way to ending hunger and diet related disease on the reservation.
