On May 17th, 2015, Team One Spirit, 15 Lakota athletes, is running in the Colfax Marathon for Lakota youth and to raise funds for youth programs and youth centers on Pine Ridge Reservation.

Pine Ridge Reservation is home to 20,000 youth and is the poorest place in the Western Hemisphere outside of Haiti. The goal is to fund programs that will provide Lakota youth with hope, pride and life. Just this year, in four months, 11 kids committed suicide. The youngest was 12 years old. 241 Lakota youth were treated for attempted suicide.

Recently, the efforts of our athletes helped to build a Youth Center in Allen. The Youth Center was opened on March 28th, 2015 and will provide 2000 kids with mentoring, tutoring, counseling, recreation, computer skills, access to music lessons and equipment, access to art and art supplies, cultural immersion and much more. The goal now is to provide similar centers in all the other 8 areas of the reservation.

ONE SPIRIT, a Native American organization, supports the efforts of the Oglala Lakota on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to eliminate hunger, lower the drop out and suicide rates among youth.
