The 2015 Crazy Horse Ride is June 7-11. Children from the emergency youth shelter will be riding this year and need your support.

Since 1997, the Crazy Horse ride provided a great outdoor experience for the youth. Summer time in Lakota country has been a time of campfire fun for our youth - drug and alcohol free events/camps. Our staff noticed the need after past Crazy Horse rides (279 rider participation) to “keep the camp fires burning”. A great event turn out was enough to have a very strong impact on our youth. It was like everyone was participating on the ride, and when it was over our youth would say, “We wish it was longer”.

The New Warrior Camp made that wish a reality in 2011. The New Warrior Camps, now in the 4th year and growing in numbers, are about keeping our youth in a sober, drug free environment and giving them the tools they need to cope with life’s tougher problems.

This year children from the Emergency Youth Shelter will riding. Please support these youth by donating generously for food and drinks or by becoming a ride sponsor. Every penny of your donation will go directly to the ride.

The New Warrior Camps

Hello, My name is Bamm Brewer I have been the organizer of the Crazy Horse ride for 17 years. This year the theme for our ride is “New Warrior”. We believe our camps through the years have become a “Rite of Passage” for our youth. The entire oyate/and parents are so proud after their youth complete the Crazy Horse ride and or one of our camps. It is really a great experience that of being close to your horse and the ancestors feel so close. I can say that for what our youth are going through today there is hope. I have been sober close to 20 years and I really enjoy helping our youth so they don’t have to go down the path I took years ago. I know reservation life can be tough and the kids all act like its boring, but I have lived and found many hobbies that helped me to walk the red road, such as fishing, hunting, horses, guitars, music recording, mechanicing, auto body, wood working, arts and crafts. We have the ability to help youth find their own path and interests. Our summer time activities develop connections and strength that provide needed support all year long.Crazy Horse Ride (c) William Ing
