Ride for Youth
This summer a young man from Rockford, Illinois named Dan Ross will embark on a 1500-mile bike ride from South Dakota to the Oregon coast to raise awareness for the struggling Lakota youth of the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. This ride is actually a continuation of the 800 miles he walked last year from Illinois to South Dakota. Click here to get information about this walk.The donations collected from his journey will go to the One Spirit organization to support their efforts in constructing a youth center on the reservation. Poverty, alcoholism and unemployment on Pine Ridge have been ongoing for generations and the young people are hit hardest. One Spirit works closely with the Lakota people to help them help themselves. The youth center, once built, will be a priceless addition to the community, providing kids with opportunities in sports and education, as well as guidance from elders. Most of all these kids need a safe place to have fun, so help One Spirit make it happen!
